Important Information to Know After Booking

Thank you for booking with us here at Pacific Edge Eco Lodge. We are looking forward to hosting you.

We have gathered a bit of information for you below, before you arrive. We hope that this helps to answer a few of our most common questions. We kindly ask that you please take the time to read this, so that you know well our policies in advance. Please note that our new condo,Villa Pacifica is self check-in, so the check in time is a bit more flexible. For more information about Villa Pacifica, please click here.

Pacific Edge Eco Lodge: Check In: Our check in time time is between 3:00pm-6pm. If we have availability you may be able to check in earlier, but we most likely won’t know until the day of check in. Late check-ins can be made up UNTIL 9pm and will incur a $50 late fee. We will have to make someone available to check you in, so we will need to know in advance your check in time or to help you make other arrangements.

This is a policy we do not waver from often. As our cabins are open aired and sound travels, we do not want to disturb our other guests. Also we are a small family run business and we go to bed early in order to start our day, at 5am. No one likes a cranky host. 😉 If you think you will be later than 9pm because of flight issues, etc. please let us know asap so we can help you to make arrangements closer to the airport. We have several great options of places to stay, (San Jose, Jaco, Play Hermosa) and we will see you bright and early the next day.

Check out is between 9:00-10:00am. Likewise, if we don’t have other guests checking in that day, you may be able to extend your checkout time. Late check outs may incur an additional fee. Please ask us in advance and we will do our best to accommodate you.

We serve breakfast between 7:00am-9:00am and the cost is typically around $8.00-$10.00 USD per meal. We are only serving breakfast at this time, but we do offer sunset cocktails / wine/ beer / smoothies for purchase during sunset hours or if you see us hanging out in the Rancho areas.

As of 2022, Children under 12 are not allowed at this time. We are a very tranquil and quiet hotel and we need to respect all of our guests privacy so that you all may enjoy the peace and solitude of your jungle surroundings. Having young children disrupts this tranquility and as much as we love them, it was a decision we felt we needed to uphold moving forward into 2022. We are built on the top of a natural mountain ridge and unfortunately there are too many areas that young children could be injured or hurt. If you choose to book all of the rooms for a special event ie: family / friends reunion, wedding etc. then they will be allowed on case by case basis. Please message us to discuss before booking. If you do book out the entire property for your event, family reunion etc, children need to have adult supervision at all times. If a guests shows up with children under the age limit and without prior approval, we have the right to refuse accommodations and there will be no refund for your stay.

** If you have stayed with us prior and would like to discuss this, please give us a call or shoot us an email. Thank you.

Air Travel: If you have not already booked your air travel and if you are wanting to stay with us on your arrival date, please consider booking a flight that arrives no later than 3pm. It will take you 3 plus hours to get to us from the airport on a good travel day (regardless of what the google map says) and depending on several factors, (ie: how long you will be in customs, how long it takes you to pick up your rental car, etc.) you might not make it here until well after dark. Sunset is around 5:35-5:55 year round (we do not observe Daylight savings time) so it can be intimidating and very tiresome while driving during that time. If you are traveling to us during rainy season or if their are very slow trucks or traffic on your way, it could take your considerably longer to arrive. Our latest check in is 9pm as we close down the Rancho and common areas.  Under certain extreme situations you may check in at a later time, but this needs to be communicated to us directly as soon as possible, since no one will be available after 9pm.

Traveling inside of Costa Rica : If you are traveling from other areas of Costa Rica, please note that the arrival time that it says on Google Maps or Waze is not always exact. Better yet, that it most certainly can be double that at times. One guest came from the Caribbean side and although it said 8 hours to get to our place, it took them 13 hours in total. Please plan accordingly and then add an extra few hours. Make sure to leave at the earliest time possible in order to make our 6pm check in time without incurring a late charge. As we stated above it gets very dark on the roads after sunset so you do not want to be stuck driving many hours in pitch black of night.

….And just In case you didn’t realize, we are a small, family-run, Bed & Breakfast and not a typical hotel chain. So there isn’t staff here to check you in at all hours of the night. Also if we have to check guests in after 8pm, that could disturb our other guests and the tranquil vibe of the property. Of course, if you are here earlier you will catch the most amazing sunset around! It is the best time to start to relax and to “Simply Be”.

So we kindly ask that everyone do their very best to get here within the allotted check in time. We certainly like to accommodate everyone, so communication is key in order to help us to do our part in helping you.

If you ARE arriving in San Jose at a later time and you do not wish to drive all of this way in one day, we do have recommendations for you. We can recommend nearby hotels that are closer to the airport or only an hour south of San Jose in the Jaco/ Playa Hermosa area. If you are renting from our rental car partner, Vamos Rental Car, they can also offer discounted room rates next to the airport & rental agency. Please email us and we will be glad to recommend other accommodations for you for your first nights stay before you head our way.

Car Rental: If you haven’t booked your transportation yet we recommended Vamos Car Rental. We have used them for 10 years and we trust they will serve you well. They have the best and most competitive rates around and if you mention you are staying with us at Pacific Edge Eco Lodge, you will receive a discount. We do highly recommend a 4×4 car during your stay. Not only to access our road (we are 1.25 km up the mountain) but many of the other restaurants and excursions in the area as well. If you want to explore, you need a 4×4.

TRAVEL INSURANCE: We highly recommended travel insurance for all our guests. Our cancellation policy is one we normally can not waiver from. So in order to protect you from any unforeseen circumstances, please consider looking into purchasing insurance for extra peace of mind.

Our Cabins: Each cabin is a rustic open air concept with screened in windows and fresh mountain air breezes blowing through your room. Each cabin is also equipped with ceiling and floor fans in case you need them. Most guests don’t even turn them on, as it does become chilly in the mornings / evenings, making for perfect sleeping weather. Each cabin has its own bathroom and hot water showers. Each room has its own towels for your personal use inside the cabin and we offer separate pool/beach towels in the Rancho / Common area. We do not have local toiletries (Shampoo/Conditioner / Shower Soap) at this time so keep that in mind when traveling with us. We hope to offer this in the near future.

Cabin 1-3 has its own small kitchen with its own small refrigerator and Cabin 4 has a full kitchen and two bathrooms. All cabins have an covered porch with hammock and seating areas.  The rooms include a toaster, cooktop and coffee maker with complimentary Costa Rican coffee and sugar. Each kitchen has all the utensils you need for cooking your own meals, if you choose to do so. There are a couple of grocery stores nearby if you would like to purchase your own food while staying with us. If not, we have several restaurant recommendations in the area that we would be happy to share with you.

Excursions/ Wellness: If you are interested in yoga, massage, hiking, waterfalls, surfing, river boat tours, beaches, national parks, zip-lining or kayaking, please email us or message us directly. We will gladly help book these tours for you. Most tours cost anywhere from $35-$85 USD.
