What airport do we fly into? San Jose Airport. Alajuela. Airport code SJO Make sure it is not San Jose, California. Yes, that has happened before to some of our guests.
How far is it from San Jose? On a good day its a 3 hour drive!
Should I rent a car? or shuttle service? Completely up to you! We prefer having our own car as we are pretty adventurous but if you like, you could have a shuttle bring you here (we have some great shuttle services that we recommend) and then get a rental car delivered here the next day. Also in this area of Dominicalito / Dominical its not easy to walk around town so you definitely need a car or a taxi. Especially up and down our mountain! It IS great exercise! 😉
I am coming in late and I am not sure if we will make check in time. Can we come later? If you arrive in San Jose after 2pm, we highly suggest that you get a room for the night as you won’t make it before dark and / or before late check in. There are several reasons that we suggest this. 1. Immigration can take longer than antipicated. 2. We have 12 hours or daylight / night year round (we don’t observe time change) and once sun sets it is dark on the roads. It can be intimidating to drive for some. 3. If you look at google maps it says we are only 92 miles away. Although true, there are so many variables that can make this a very long trip. It is a 3 hour drive on a GOOD day. Sometimes less and more times than not, longer. So after a long day of travel, checking into a nearby hotel and getting a good nights rest is highly recommended. You can also head south a ways (Jaco/ Playa Hermosa area) and stay at a great place along / close to the beach. We have some great places we could suggest. 4. We are open aired cabins and if you arrive late then you will disturb the other guests that have retired early. 5. We ourselves, live on the property and we also retire early as we get up early to get breakfast made for you all. If you do arrive later than anticipated please reach out to us ASAP and we can help make arrangements for you.
Ok so since we are arriving late, can you suggest a hotel for us nearby? Yes of course! There are several great places in San Jose OR you can head south, break up the distance and stay close to Jaco / Play Hermosa and then come to us the next day. That drive is definitely beautiful in the day time and lots of cool places to stop along the way. Just ask and we will give you our recommendations!
I don’t want to drive that far is there a closer airport? We offer shuttle services from San Jose airport SJO (3 hour drive) if you don’t want to drive yourself or you can fly Sansa airlines from SJO airport and arrive in 20 minutes to Quepos airport. From there you can get a shuttle to our place or get a rental car and you are only 30 minutes away.
Do you have a restaurant or snacks on the property? We currently serve breakfast only from 7-9am. We do have beers, cocktails and sodas for purchase in the rancho or in your room on the honor system.
Do you have a masseuse? Yes we do have masseuse availble at your request. Please let us know the day before or the moring of and we will book it for you.
Where can I do yoga? We have a great platform / viewing deck, on your porch or in any of the view towers if you would like to do so solo. If you would like to have a guided yoga practice, please let us know when booking.
How far is the beach? The beach is a 5 minute drive down our mountain OR a 15 -20 minute walk. Granted going down is a lot easier than coming up but I do it regularly and its a great exercise (bum burner) 😉
Can I pay cash? Yes, of course you may pay cash but you will still need to pay taxes. (we follow the rules as we are lucky to be living in this great country) We will also still need a credit card for incendentals and to hold your room reservation.
How many people can sleep in the room? Cabin 1 sleeps 3 MAX, Cabin 2 &3 sleeps 4 MAX and cabin 4 sleeps 6 MAX. THIS IS A STRICT POLICY.
Do you give discounts for long term rentals? We do, please inquire for more information.
What restaurants are in the area? GREAT question! We boast some of the best cuisine in the area. There is a long list of our favorite places to eat in your room. Of course we will be happy to share with you if you ask!
Do I need covid insurance? (Feb 2023) We don’t believe it’s necessary for covid insurance but we HIGHLY suggest travel insurance for every vacation. We are a small family run business and this is our bread and butter, so to speak. So if you cancel because of airline delays, cancellations or sickness, we will not refund your booking. Please don’t leave us a bad review because of poor planning on your part. Of course we get your frustration but its not our fault. On the flip side, IF we can rebook those dates, its up to our discretion to credit you back for a later date. It’s only a few extra dollars in the grand scheme of things… buy the INSURANCE! 😉
What activities are there to do? We are here to help you book any and all excursions for you. There is a lot to do in the area and you will run out of time before you run out of excursions. Hiking, surfing, zip lining, atv tours, white water rafting, waterfall tours, kayaking, paddle boarding, whale watching, diving, snorkeling, rappelling, chocolate tours, yoga, sailing and then some I am sure I forgot.
Is there fishing? YES, that is one that I forgot to mention! You can go out deep sea or shoreline fishing. We have some great guys that we can book for you.
Is their night life? Dominical does have a bit of nightlife but we are mostly a sleepy little beach town. There are a few bars in town that stay open later but most places close relatively early. There is live music going on pretty regularly now too. We can recommend some great spots if you ask. Also, Manuel Antonio is only half an hour away and its like “Key West, FL” on the mountain. Pretty fun and busy town with lots more going on!
Do monkeys like bananas? I am sure they do as one stole two of them off my table when I was making a smoothie. I turned around and they were gone. Although that is NOT the norm here as we don’t feed the wildlife. The monkeys usually stay high up in the trees and they love to watch humans watch them!
Do you accept pets? Unfortunately no, not at this time. We have two dogs and 4 cats if you want to get your snuggles in with ours. I am sure they would love it!
Do you allow kids? Pacific Edge has always been an adult only lodge until we bought it in 2020. We have a daughter ourselves so we do love kids. We have tried it with the younger kiddos but unfortunately its not suitable unless you book out all the rooms. At the moment the age is 12 and up. Please don’t fib about their age either… unfortunately I have had several guests do so and it’s embarrassing when they (the kids) let me know they really are not 12. I’ve had a few feel guilty that their parents told them to lie. Kids are really something else, aren’t they!? 😉 If you want to discuss this with me… please reach out. I am more than happy to discuss.
When is rainy season? Supposedly it starts in July-November. But sometimes it starts a bit earlier. Don’t let that scare you away! It’s our most favorite time of the year! It is cooler, less touristy and it rains in the early / late afternoon. Everyone gets up early here (yes, trust me you will too) and by the late afternoon you are already done with most of your excursions. The rainy season is magical, alive and everything is so vibrant! We ONLY came here in September (My birthday month) when we were guests here ourselves. It’s definitely a perfect time to come!
Can I see animals?Sloths? We have capuchin monkeys and howler monkeys, toucans, parrots and a million different birds! We also see sloths on occasion. They are here.. I just don’t always look up to find them. If you find a slot on our property, free breakfast!
